Frequently Asked Questions

What precautions are in place during Covid 19?

We maintain social distancing and ensure that each student recognises and uses the two metre rule. Risk assessments are carried out and implemented and face masks worn where required.

Each learner is provided with a sealed pack containing a face mask, bandage, triangular bandage, dressings and resuscitation face shield which are sterile and taken away at the end of the course by the learner. Each learner will also have their own adult manikin to use for the duration of the course which will be fitted with new lungs.

How many people will be in the group?

We have a maximum of 12 people on our open first aid courses. This ensures a comfortable learning environment and the time and space for trainees to get lots of hands on practice.

What should I wear to attend the course?

We recommend you wear comfortable clothing (not skirts or dresses) to participate in the essential practical elements of our training.

Do your courses comply with UK guidelines?

Yes, all of our courses have been written according to the latest UK Resuscitation Council guidelines (2015) and meet the needs of the Health & Safety Executive (HSE) and current regulations.

What qualification will I get when I complete the course?

If you’re attending our fully regulated Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) course, you will receive an externally awarded QNUK Certificate, valid for 3 years. This course involves practical and multiple-choice assessments and your certificate will arrive by post within 5-10 working days of successful completion of the course. If you need your certificate sooner we can issue a non-regulated one and award it to you on the day.

If you’re attending one of our other scheduled courses, including Emergency First Aid – All Ages (3 hours) or Paediatric First Aid (1 day), you will be awarded your Emergency or Paediatric First Aid Certificate on the day, this certificate is valid for 3 years (although an annual refresher is recommended).

These certificates include verifiable CPD where appropriate. The Paediatric First Aid certificate states that you have completed the Paediatric First Aid Course covering the topics specified by Ofsted and fulfilling Ofsted requirements for Child Carers. This is the certification required to register with Ofsted.

How long is my certificate valid for?

Your certificate is valid for 1 or 3 years depending on the course you have chosen. We also offer Annual First Aid Refresher courses to give you the confidence that your knowledge and skills are up to date. AED certification is only valid for one year.

Are the trainers DBS checked?

Yes, all of our trainers are DBS checked and certificates are verified on a regular basis.

What qualifications do the trainers have to teach?

We are regulated by QNUK who provide approval on behalf of the Health and Safety Executive for Emergency First Aid at Work and First Aid at Work courses. All our trainers are annually moderated and regularly verified and have a formal teaching qualification.  In addition Phoenix Medical Training offer regular updates and upskilling sessions for the team and require that all our trainers have used their skills in real life situations and are experts on the subject of first aid and related topics.

Do your courses meet First Aid at Work requirements?

Our scheduled Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) 1 day courses are accredited and regulated practical courses that meet the First Aider requirements of all workplaces with less than 50 employees with low to medium risk and for larger and higher risk businesses to support other First Aiders.

Because of the additional areas we include within our training our courses offer a far better training for sports professionals and anyone else needing a first aider who is able to assist with someone having a heart attack, head injury or asthma attack.

We also offer the full First Aid at Work (FAW) 3-day and 2 day refresher courses for groups.
